Culex pipiens s.l. Linnaeus, 1758
Type-loc: Europe, Lappland, America
Culex pipiens s.l. comprise species Culex pipiens s.s. and Culex quinquefasciatus.
Culex pipiens s.s. differs from Culex quinquefasciatus by its seta 1a-S formed of 2 to 5 branches (exceptionally 6) and by its generally double setae 1-III and 1-IV. Because of the presence of hybrids confirmation with molecular techniques are recommended.
